Does Jaws PDF Creator support Windows 7?

Jaws PDF Creator does not support Windows 7. Global Graphics has replaced the Jaws PDF products with gDoc Fusion, which consists of a free PDF/XPS Creator PDF/XPS Reader. If you want to purchase an upgrade to the full gDoc Fusion product, which will enable all features of the gDoc Fusion Editor product, you can use your existing Jaws PDF Creator serial number.

More information about our gDoc products is available at:
www.globalgraphics.com/PDF-Software

We recommend installing a trial version, which includes the free Creator, to see if it meets your needs. (Windows 7 is supported). This will enable you to try the various functions of the gDoc Fusion product also, although saved PDF files from this application will be watermarked in the trial version. (Output from the gDoc Creator product is not watermarked)

You can download the trial version from:
www.globalgraphics.com/en/gdoc/gdoc-try-downloads

If you decide to upgrade to the full version of gDoc Fusion, you can do so from:
www.globalgraphics.com/en/gdoc/upgrade-gdoc-fusion

Will Jaws PDF Creator work in MS Office 2007?

Answer: The macros for Jaws PDF Creator v4.1 (or any previous version) are not supported in MS Office 2007, although this is supported in the Jaws PDF Creator v5.

[Please note that Jaws PDF Desktop Suite v1 contains Jaws PDF Creator v4.1 and Jaws PDF Desktop Suite v2 contains Jaws PDF Creator v5.0.]

We have had customers report using older versions (not v5.0) with Office '07 by placing the macros in the following folders:
JawsPDFCreator.dot - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\STARTUP
JawsExcelMacro.xla - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLStart

Whilst this may work, Jaws PDF Creator has not been tested in this environment, and we cannot provide support for any issues that might arise from the use of the Office macros.

Why will Jaws PDF Creator not run on my Windows with 64-bit OS?

Answer: Jaws PDF Creator does not support any 64 bit operating system until Jaws PDF Creator v5.0. This will run on Windows XP 64-bit and Windows 2003 64-bit but it will not run on Windows Vista 64-bit. We have created a new product called gDoc Fusion that has two parts: a creator and a viewer. The creator is gDoc Creator and the viewer is gDoc Fusion. This product will function of a 64-bit OS. You can see a video about the two products and try out the trial version at: gDc Fusion

Why do I still have a watermark after entering my serial number?

Answer: Many Mac users find that the output is watermarked, although a serial number was entered during installation. This is because the serial number didn't register, and it is necessary to enter the serial number via the Configuration Editor in order for it to register correctly.
With Mac OS X the way to re-enter the serial number is as follows:
- Locate and launch the Jaws PDF Creator Configuration Editor:
'[hard disk] > Applications > Jaws PDF Creator > Configuration Editor'
- Select "About Configuration Editor" from the "Configuration Editor" Menu item.
- Click the "Enter serial number" button
- Enter your details, including the serial number
- Quit the Configuration Editor

Check again to see if you have a watermark.
If the issue persists, please go to the end of the FAQs and submit a request for further assistance.

How should I upgrade from Jaws PDF Creator 2.xx [or earlier] to 4.x or v5.0?

Answer:
Note: If you have a licence key (serial number) for 2.xx, v3.0-3.4, or v3.6 you will need a version 4 serial number to proceed. Keep a note of your existing license key (serial number) in case you wish to revert to it.

Windows:
If you have made any custom changes to prologue.ps or pdfcreator.ppd files, keep a backup of these for reference.
For v2.11 or above, you may install version 4.0 or version 5.0 over the top of your existing version. This will retain any custom configurations you may have.
For versions earlier than 2.11 and for v3.0, it is recommended that you uninstall first.
Reboot your machine.
If you experience any errors when creating your first PDF file, please uninstall v4.x/v5.0, reboot your machine and then reinstall v4.x/v5.0.

Macintosh:
It is recommended to remove any earlier versions.
1. Ensure that you have a note of any custom configuration changes
1. Uninstall earlier version of Jaws PDF Creator
2. Remove any Jaws PDF Creator desktop printers.
3. Remove the install folder (Applications:Jaws PDF Creator)
4. Remove the preferences file (System folder:Preferences).
5. Install version 4.x or version 5.0

Why do I still get the evaluation banner even though I have entered the serial number?

Answer: Your serial number could be for version 2.xx of our product and you may have installed Jaws PDF Creator v 3.x, v3.6, v4.x or even v5.0. Make sure the serial number is valid for the version of Jaws PDF Creator that you have.

Windows:
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click on Jaws PDF Creator icon
Click on the 'About Jaws PDF Creator' button
The version number is shown at the top of the 'About' window.
Ensure that the version number is not higher than that for which you have purchased a license.
[Note: v3.6 has a separate serial number.]
In the recessed box below that, the Serial number is shown with the User and Company names. If 'Demonstration' appears here, then no serial number has been entered. If you have purchased a valid serial number for this version, you can press 'Enter Serial Number' to enter it here.
If [Invalid] appears before the number, then an invalid serial number has been entered. This may be because is was intended for an earlier version of Jaws PDF Creator and is not valid for the version currently installed.

Macintosh:
Go to the Apple menu > Control Panels > Jaws PDF Creator
Next, go to Apple > About Jaws PDF Creator
The version number and license number of Jaws PDF Creator will be shown here.
Ensure that the version number is not higher than that for which you have purchased a license.
If the License number is shown as 'Demonstration version', and you have a serial number, you can enter it as follows:
Under the Apple menu, choose 'Enter Serial number' and enter the serial number that you purchased.
In some cases the serial number may need to be installed twice.

The purchase of a new serial number for Jaws PDF Creator may not be possible but you could upgrade to gDoc Creator. This is installed with another product called gDoc Fusion. You can view a video regarding the product at:

Word for Office XP/ Office2003: Why is there no Jaws PDF Creator File menu entry in Word for Office XP OR why do I get a macro security message when opening Word?

Answer: The current startup macro may not be in the correct location.
The correct setup can be achieved as follows:
1. Close Word.
2. Search your system for the file 'JawsPDFCreatorInit.dot'.
3. Delete all that you find, apart from the one in your Jaws PDF Creator install folder, typically:
'C:\Program Files\JawsSystems\Jaws PDF Creator'
4. Find and note the correct startup folder as follows:

For Jaws PDF Creator versions prior to v3.3:
Open Word, click on Tools >> Options >> File locations, and double-click on the "Start Up" entry in the list. Make a note of that file path and then close Word.

For Jaws PDF Creator version 3.3 and above:
Use common office startup folder, typically:
'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup'
(Note: This will be ..\Office9\.. for Office 2000, ..\Office10\.. for OfficeXP, ..\Office11\.. for Office 2003)

5. Take a copy of the 'JawsPDFCreatorInit.dot' file from the Jaws PDF Creator install folder, typically:
'C:\Program Files\JawsSystems\Jaws PDF Creator'
and place it in the appropriate startup folder, as in 4. above.
6. Start MS Word
7. Check under 'Tools > Templates and Add-ins' that 'JawsPDFCreatorInit.dot' is listed and selected.

Note: The following applies to versions below 3.3:
Once the macro is installed, you may see security warnings when opening up Word. This is because Office XP has set high macro security by default. Our macro is not digitally signed prior to version 3.0 and so prompts a security warning when activated. Please note that there is nothing harmful or potentially harmful contained within our installed macro. To avoid this security message, close the document and change the macro security level to Medium (in which case you will be prompted when you open up Word as to whether you wish to enable macros) or Low (the macros will be enabled without prompting. Please consider whether you will often be opening up documents from unverifiable sources before selecting Low security).
To do this, follow these steps:

On the Tools menu, click Macro and then click Security.
On the Security Level tab, click to select Medium or Low, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to quit Microsoft Word.
NOTE: You must quit and restart Microsoft Word for the security level change to take effect.

Macintosh. Why doesn't Jaws PDF Creator work under Mac OS 9.1?

Answer: Apple introduced changes to the Mac memory manager for this release that prevents PDF Creator from producing PDFs. There is no workaround for version 1.52 of PDF Creator but this problem was fixed in version 2.0. You should upgrade to v2.11 or higher for the best results. The solution is to upgrade to the latest version of Jaws PDF Creator if you intend to run Mac OS 9.1.
PDF Creator 1.52 will run on Mac OS 8.1 to 9.0.
