| What is new with JPS v4.0 |
A key benefit, and a much requested feature for JPS 4.0, is dongleless operation. We've replaced the dongle with security based on a license key. For users with a current maintenance contract, the license key for your upgrade is available from your Jaws PDF Server reseller. Please contact the reseller who provided your current software for this license key.
If you do not have a current maintenance contract, please talk to your reseller about putting one in place.
If you wish to start evaluating this upgrade, you may download and install JPS 4.0 and run it in evaluation mode (an "EVALUATION" watermark will appear on all page) by visiting our download page here: http://www.jawspdf.com/download/. Evaluators will receive 30 days of free technical support.

| When running Jaws PDF Server as a service, Why can I only convert files sent from a client machine, when logged on with an administrator account? |
This may be a permissions setting with the service. The Jaws PDF service needs Administrative privileges to work. To set this, go into Administrative Tools -> Services -> Jaws PDF Service -> Properties -> Log on. You can then change the JPS service log on to an Administrator account, so the Service will run with the necessary privileges when a normal user logs on.

| Why is the "Create printer" button greyed out when I attempt to create a printer in the SmartInput module? |
If you selected the PS printer driver first, then entered 'Printer name', the 'Create printer' button may not be active. This is just an entry quirk, and clicking in the 'Printer shared name' field should resolve this.

| How can I move Jaws PDF Server to another machine, and keep the same workflow configuration? |
To move your workflow configurations to a new installation, export the settings to a .mef file as follows: Go to File -> Export, then save the file to your disk. Move the exported file over to your other server machine, and import it once you have installed Jaws PDF Server on that machine. It's a good idea to retain the installation on your existing machine for reference, until you have the new server installation up and running.

| How can I speed up job processing? |
Try the following:
1. Set the 'Buffer size:' in the SmartInput module (General tab) to 4096 instead of 2048. It is not recommend to go above this.
2. Check the time being taken by the 'MemMan.exe' process in the Task Manager (Processes tab), whilst Jaws PDF Server is processing file that appear to take a long time. If this is continuously high, you could try reducing the priority as follows: Right-click the MemMan.exe process, select 'Set priority', and set this to 'Low'. This will need to be set again each time that Jaws PDF Server is restarted.

There is no facility in the Jaws PDF Server for automatically deleting generated PDFs routed to the output folder specified. | When I print from an application to the virtual printer on a Windows 2000 machine, I do not get a PDF created with the file title it originally was saved with. Why? |
This is due to the PScript5.dll that comes with Windows 2000. If you print to file and then drop the PS or PRN file into the hot folder, the file will come out with the name of the software that produced it and the name the file it was saved with.
This can be resolved by replacing the new Windows 2000 driver with an older one.

|
| Some users report that their PostScript files are not being processed into PDFs or the PDF is corrupted. What could be the problem? |

| Printing from Microsoft Excel. Why is my Workbook split into a number of PDF files when I print to Jaws PDF Server? |
Excel will split worksheets within a workbook if the resolutions are different. Check the resolution setting in each worksheet of your workbook. To make all the dpi the same per sheet, go to the first worksheet, select File > Page Setup and set the 'Print Quality' on the 'Page' tab of the window to, say, 600 dpi. Go through the others checking this setting.
